Voice actor Charles Martinet, who has been the voice of Mario since 1996’s Mario 64, is retiring from the role. In a statement posted on Twitter, or X, or whatever it’s called now, Nintendo have announced that Charles Martinet will be moving into the new role of “Mario Ambassador”.
So associated with the voice of Mario is Martinet that many fans were disappointed that the role was taken by Chris Pratt instead of him in last year’s Super Mario Bros Movie.
Charles Martinet will not be voicing Mario and Luigi in the forthcoming Super Mario Bros Wonder for Switch, meaning that the last game to feature the voice of Charles Martinet as Mario and Luigi will be last year’s Mario + Rabbids Spark of Hope.
Nintendo have not yet announced who it’s-a gonna be voicing Mario in future games, but we suspect Hollywood actor Chris Pratt may be outside of Nintendo’s price range for the role (but who knows?!)
