Many of us have been waiting for the new smaller PlayStation 5 console – especially those of us who have limited shelf space in our TV cabinets. However early rumours and even confirmed specifications highlight that the new model isn’t that much smaller after all.
When stood upright, the dimensions of the new PS5 consoles are 358mm tall, 96mm (80mm for the digital version) wide, and 216mm deep. For the disc version, that’s just 32mm shorter, 8mm narrower, and 44mm less depth. Which really doesn’t sound an awful lot. However, due to the curvature of the console, this isn’t the end of the story. Only once you see these side-by-side can you appreciate the size difference is bigger than it sounds.
Thankfully one Reddit-er, ErikHumphrey, has done just this, by using the controller sizes within Sony’s images as a baseline and shrinking the images to make a proper image comparison. Now this really does look 25% smaller, and more importantly, it will even fit on my TV shelf.
