Our friends over at indie magazine Debug have announced a new gaming award show dedicated to the best and brightest in the world of indie gaming for next year. The show will take place at 9pm on 24th February 2024 and will be taking nominations from around the world. Two of the awards are being presented by gaming charities Safe In Our World and Everyone Can “to award indie titles that have had a positive impact on the conversation around mental health, and those that seek to make indie gaming accessible for all.”
Debug founder Daniel Crocker explained that “Debug was founded with the goal of championing independent games, and the tireless work of those who make them. From coders to QA, and everything between, I believe that proper representation of these often underappreciated individuals is essential. The Debug Indie Game Awards is our way of putting these games, and their creators, in the spotlight.” You can find out more about the awards including how to nominate your choices on the new website that has launched today.
Debug has also announced another new event that aims to create “an opportunity for students and members of the public to mingle with people from the video games industry.” The event, called Debug U, will be a free, invite-only event but there will be 100 tickets will be available for the general public via a lottery system. The event has been put together with the help of Nottingham Video Game Expo.
Alex Hunt, the co-founder of the Expo, said “we are going to be showcasing students very early on in their game development careers at the event. We’re going to have developers, artists and sound designers, from total beginners to seasoned veterans, sharing discussion across stage talks, which we feel is something very unique to us and something we are very passionate about. People can also think of this as an IRL debug process, with experienced industry professionals able to give feedback on games being shown.”
We shall keep you posted on the events as more details are announced.
