Perhaps one of the more surprising reveals for retro fans at Game Fest 2022 on Thursday 9th June was the trailer for the belated sequel to the 1992 adventure platformer Flashback. The original game was famed for using rotoscoped animation and was designed by Future War developer Paul Cuisset and released on a variety of 16-bit formats, more recently receiving a remastered re-release from French developer and publisher Microids in 2018.
Now, 30 years on from the original game, a sequel has been developed by Microids, who will publish it on a variety of formats to include PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Steam in winter 2022, with a Nintendo Switch release to follow in 2023.
The sequel looks set to follow in the footsteps of its predecessor: a visually stunning 2D platforming adventure. If it’s anything like the original, it’ll be rock hard, too.

I've been playing video games since the 1980s, from the 8-bit era onwards. I have had to play one-handed following a stroke in 2014, and I blog about playing games with one hand.
