Resident Evil Netflix poster

It has been reported that Netflix has cancelled its live-action Resident Evil TV series after just one season, which was released little over a month ago, on 14th July 2022.
The show received mixed reviews from fans of Capcom’s long-running zombie game franchise, which has previously seen seven big-screen adaptations, including a reboot released just last year (2021) in addition to Netflix’s recent 8-episode small-screen adaptation. Perhaps it’s time to try adapting a different video game franchise now? Or maybe TV and movie studios could even have a go at creating some original IP?

I've been playing video games since the 1980s, from the 8-bit era onwards. I have had to play one-handed following a stroke in 2014, and I blog about playing games with one hand.

  1. Apparently viewing figures were initially very good – the show managed 72.7 million hours viewed in its first week (2nd place on netflix!), but then stalled in the second week with 73.3 million hours. By week three, it had dropped out of the top ten completely, which explains the cancellation. I’ve personally not watched it, but reviews are that it was poor to pretty average.
