Here’s my four-word Murtop Switch review: Dig Dug meets Bomberman.
That’s kind of all you need to know, but I think Fusion head honcho Chris Wilkins might well send a bomb my way if I post a four-word review on his site!
What’s more, a game of Murtop’s high quality deserves to have a lot more than that written about it.
In Murtop, you play a cute little white rabbit who burrows into the ground, Dig Dug-style, in order to get those tasty carrots that all rabbits seem to desire so much.
But Murtop is no ordinary rabbit – he can poop bombs! To clear each level, Murtop must deploy said pooped explosives to blow up every enemy mole on the level, with bonus points on offer for disposing of multiple enemies with a single bomb. However, Murtop must also avoid blowing himself up, which, as in Bomberman, is all too easy to do, if you’re not careful!
Murtop is another super-addictive retro arcade-style game from one of our favourite indie publishers, and much like one of their previous games, the delicious Donut Dodo, Murtop looks, sounds, and plays like it’s landed onto modern consoles from an alternate early-80s, where it’s a highly regarded arcade classic.
So, if you’re a fan of early arcade games like Dig Dug, but you fancy something new to play, Murtop is definitely the game for you.
Another nice touch is the choice of optional bezels, amongst other visual options, to help you tweak the Murtop arcade experience to your liking.
With the likes of Donut Dodo and Murtop, Flynn’s Arcade are curating a collection of neo-retro arcade classics that should appeal to any retro arcade gamer.
Murtop is available on the eshop from 18th May 2023, and at just £4.99, it certainly doesn’t cost a bomb.
