Atari 2600+

The Atari 2600+ is Atari’s latest attempt to launch a new console.

Unlike 2021’s Atari VCS (remember that?!), the Atari 2600+ is strictly a retro proposition, albeit with HBDMI connectivity. Eschewing internet connectivity, the machine will be capable of running Atari 2600 and Atari 7800 cartridges. See compatible titles here.

While resurrecting the Atari 2600 as hardware may seem like a gamble, it’s impossible to overstate how popular the original 2600 was, clinging to a spot in the Argos catalogue when most gamers had leapt into the 16-bit era.

Currently, the Atari 2600+ is only available to pre-order to the US, but international availability will be revealed at a later date. The machine is priced at $129.99 and will ship in November 2023.

The Atari 2600+ will come bundled with a CX40+ Joystick, recreated to the specifications of the original iconic Atari 2600 joystick, and a 10-in-1 cartridge containing Adventure, Combat, Dodge ‘Em, Haunted House, Maze Craze, Missile Command, RealSports Volleyball, Surround, Video Pinball, and Yars’ Revenge.

UPDATE!

UK availability has now been confirmed. In the UK, The Atari 2600+ will be an Amazon exclusive, and will be released on 17th November.

I've been playing video games since the 1980s, from the 8-bit era onwards. I have had to play one-handed following a stroke in 2014, and I blog about playing games with one hand.
