Last week, we brought you news from the Nintendo Direct presentation, but that wasn’t the only show in town! Sony held a Days of Play presentation on 13th September, at which Tekken 8 was announced for PlayStation 5, and despite being announced at a PlayStation event, the next installment in Bandai Namco’s 3D one-on-one fighter franchise is also coming to Xbox Series X|S consoles and PC. Unlike the rival fighter Street Fighter VI, Tekken 8 won’t be released on last-gen machines.
Bandai Namco claim that the Tekken series holds the record for the longest-running storyline in a video game franchise, though we’re not sure how they’re measuring that! The first Tekken game was released in arcades in 1994, with a popular PlayStation port following a year later. A 6-episode anime series based on the games, titled Tekken: Bloodline was released on Netflix on 18th August 2022.
