Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons will be the third new Double Dragon game to be released in the 21st century, following the updated Double Dragon Neon from 2012, and 2017’s Double Dragon IV, which was a return to the retro style of the original games.
The original Double Dragon first hit arcades back in 1987, spawning a number of home conversions, sequels, and even movie and animated series adaptations.
The forthcoming Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons looks to be an updated take on Billy and Jimmy Lee’s side-scrolling beat ’em up antics, offering 13 playable characters (including Jimmy and Billy, of course!) and roguelite elements in addition to the traditional Double Dragon side-scrolling brawling. As per previous Double Dragon games, there will be a local co-op mode.
Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons will be unleashed on PC, PlayStation 4 & PlayStation 5 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch this summer, published by Them’s Fighting Herds publisher Modus Games.
