Gabrielle Amore is a prolific ZX Spectrum developer and earlier this month, he released Frantic Pengo 2, a pseudo-sequel to his game Frantic Pengo. Frantic Pengo 2 is an old-school single-screen arcade game in which you must clear screens by connecting “special blocks” and pushing blocks onto “lava monsters”. Frantic Pengo 2 is a simple but engaging game with simple QAOP keyboard controls. The graphics make good use of the Speccy’s colour palette. It’s a fun diversion, but Amore warns that “there are several bugs, but I think the game is still enjoyable to some extent.” I didn’t encounter bugs, but it’s something to be aware of.
It’s not going to change the world, but it’s a short burst of colourful Speccy fun.
