For Gary Paluk, the Master System is more than just a console, it’s his life passion. From being enthralled by its charms in the mid-80s to now developing a game for it, Gary has had quite the journey with Sega’s 8bit machine. It’s not been smooth sailing however due to Gary being diagnosed with cancer.
“Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with colon cancer” Gary explains. “and had an operation then had nine months of chemotherapy which went well. I then followed that up with liver surgery because quite often the cancer goes from your colon to your liver.” It was this life-changing moment that led him to fulfill a life long dream. He stepped away from his career to recover but also to start making a video game.
“So, we’re right at the beginning. I’ve got something visual already but I would say I’m right at the very, very beginning. I’m talking to people across the forums and trying to lay down the foundation of knowledge. Trying to absorb as much of that as possible before I really commit to saying I’ve started.”
Although the game is in early development you can keep up to date on Gary’s Blitmaster’s Facebook page. Gary has also set up a website where folk can contribute to the project to gain access to early builds and get behind the scenes content about its development.
