Capcom’s recently announced ‘Fighting Collection‘ will feature ten classic arcade games, and while Capcom is no stranger to bundling games from its arcade heyday into extortionately priced collections for modern platforms, this particular one does have some notable features and inclusions.
The three big draws here are the inclusion of 1996’s Red Earth, previously unreleased outside of the arcades, all five games from the Darkstalkers series, currently unavailable after 2013’s Darkstalkers Resurrection compilation was removed from online stores and the inclusion of online play for all included games. The online component will be utilising the vaunted ‘Rollback Netcode’, now the gold standard for playing fighting games online. A wise move.

In another brainstorm filled with wisdom, Capcom has also included a ‘training mode’ for each game, something that will no doubt please fighting game fans and give players a chance to explore some of these arcade games in a new way. Also included is the usual list of welcome additional features found in most of Capcom’s previous arcade compilations, such as save-states, display filters, online leaderboards, and a museum featuring artwork and concept-design sketches. One other thing of note is the inclusion of a music player in the museum, which features over four-hundred tracks.
Releasing on the 24th of June, this looks set to be a very nice Retro arcade collection from Capcom, and an essential purchase for fighting game fans.
