Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution became a lost game when it was suddenly cancelled for the GBA in the early 2000s. The source code has been discovered 20 years later and the platformer is getting a new lease of life when it’s released as a physical GBA cart early next year. WayForward is publishing the game that is still having the final touches done to its code ready for release. The story will fill in the gaps between the original Shantae (2002) and Shantae: Risky’s Revenge (2010).
Shantae series director, Matt Bozen explains all the details in a video on the WayFord YouTube channel. In it, he explains that “Restoring the lost Shantae sequel has been an incredible adventure! After reuniting as a team, we restored the original game demo and are working hard to complete the full game on original hardware!”
This news of a lost Shantae title finding its way to the world comes hot on the heels of a re-release of the GBC title on consoles earlier this year. We reviewed it and thought it was quite swell so are looking forward to trying the GBA sequel.
