If you go down to the woods today, you’re sure of a big surprise!
If you go down to the woods today, you’d better bring along knives!
For every corpse that ever there was will gather there for certain because today’s the day that skeletons rise from their graves.
With undead skeletons wandering the Risky Woods, the teddy bears had better find somewhere else for their picnic!
So, be prepared, and don’t go down to the Risky Woods before you read our Risky Woods Switch review!
Risky Woods is the latest release in the QuByte Classics line, which reanimates the long-forgotten corpses of 16-bit titles of yesteryear. We recently enjoyed the Beat ‘Em Up Archives twin-pack in the series. So, how does Risky Woods measure up? Was it worth bringing back from the dead? Well, Risky Woods is asupernatural side-scrolling action platformer in the vein of Ghouls & Ghosts and Ghosts & Goblins, and like those games, it’s very far from easy! But if you’re a fan of those aforementioned games then you’ll enjoy “goblin” up the tough challenge offered by Risky Woods.
Although Risky Woods is hard, it’s only occasionally unfair, such as when a massive boulder appears from nowhere and crushes you, and when you accidentally pick up a deadly power-up that kills you instantly.
Risky Woods is a bone fide 16-bit game, originally released over 30 years ago, way back in 1992, but it still looks great and plays well today, even though it has none of the embellishments you’d find in modern-day titles.
We’d stop short of calling it a “classic”, but if you hanker for the 16-bit era of gaming (as we so often do here at Fusion R Gamer), then Risky Woods may well be a risk worth taking.
Risky Woods is out now on Switch (version reviewed), PlayStation 4 & 5, and Xbox One & Xbox Series X|S.

You’ve gone above and beyond with that song lol
