If you remember the old web browser games of the early 2000s, you’ll want to add Cakefoot to your list of things to play. described as an avoid-em-up by developer dank.game, this 22-level, single-button arcade game pits you against enemies trying to take you out before reaching the end of each course.
You can try the game for free now on the dank.game website in classic browser game style or wishlist it on Steam where it releases 10th May 2024 for a budget-busting £2.99. It will also be available from the developer’s itch.io page on the same day.
We’ve given Cakefoot a go and it’s very fun with that classic ‘one more go’ appeal. It’s very easy to control, you just move your hero, a piece of living cake, forward and let go of the button to slide back. Touching an enemy brings you back to the last checkpoint and getting to the end of the course sends you to the next level.
It’s certainly worth a go if you’re a fan of games like Super Meat Boy or Kuru Kuru Kurin. It also has some very nice acoustic guitar music that plays throughout. We did find that the first portion of the game is quite relaxed but the difficulty soon ramps up about the tenth level for some hair-pulling rage type gameplay that only a game like this could produce. Great stuff.
