GyroBlade, the retro inspired shooter from publisher Tendokore, is blasting onto Switch from 19th December 2022. It promises simple shmup action that harks back to the glory days of 80s arcades. Theres no complex scoring system or secondary weapons to use, its just one button action that tests your skills to the limit.

Spread across eight levels, each with its own boss fight, GyroBlade isn’t trying to be anything other than a homage to shmups such as Chopper 1 or 1942. Anyone can pick this up and start playing due to the four difficulty modes that caters for veterans and novices alike.

The graphics are simple but functional and the chiptunes will remind you of those arcade classics. The controls are tight and feel responsive and any deaths are your own with none feeling cheap. There isn’t a high score table to track your progress but you can see the highest score on screen as you play.

GyroBlade is a short lived experience but at this price point its great value and is lots of fun to blast through. This is the perfect title to pick up if you want a new shooter although veterans may want something with more depth. Its also available on Steam for those without a Switch.

  1. I’ve been playing this too, and I agree with everything Faith says! It’s pure, unadulterated 1980s-style shmupaction all the way. No bells or whistles, and it’s a joy.
