According to a news release issued by Nintendo, a live-action Zelda movie is set to begin development.
Given the success of last year’s Super Mario Bros Movie, it’s understandable that Nintendo would seek to exploit more of its IP in cinematic form.
The live-action Zelda film will be produced by Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad, Chairman of Arad Productions Inc, and producer of many successful movies, including several in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The film will be co-financed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc, and will be distributed by Sony internationally.
Obviously, Zelda should translate well to film, but which other Nintendo properties might we see hit the big screen? A grim and gritty reboot of Captain N: the Game Master? Maybe not. How about a Short Circuit-style romp starring R.O.B, or Power Glove: the Movie? If you have any ideas for any future Nintendo flicks, why not share them in the comments? Or why not let us know your casting suggestions for the live-action Zelda movie?
