Composer Remute is known for his work creating music using the audio hardware of retro consoles has previously released albums on the Sega MegaDrive, Super Nintendo, PC Engine, and Game Boy. The wonderful thing here is that the albums are released in cartridge format for the relevant console, as well as the usual digital download and also some limited vinyl releases.
Remute has now turned his attention to the N64 with his latest collection of compositions ‘R64’. Fifteen tracks of music created entirely on the N64 using “No tricks – this is not an embedded MP3 player, terribly compressed audio files on a MicroSD card. As with all previous Remute cartridge albums, the sound on this cartridge gets generated and played back in real-time and it’s all happening within a meager eight Megabytes!”. For this cartridge release, Remute has teamed up with N64 dev Rasky to assist with the sound engine, GUI, and to create a visualiser to enjoy whilst listening to the album on your N64.
