Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution was originally intended to be a Game Boy Advance installment of the Shantae series of 2D Metroidvania platformers, which began on Game Boy Color in 2002, but despite beginning production prior to the release of the original game, the GBA sequel was canned in 2004, as developer WayForward couldn’t find a publisher for the game.
The newly-finished version of the game will include updated features such as “mix-and-match multilayered stages” and a local 4-player battle mode.
Now, nearly 20 years later, Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution will finally be seeing release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC in 2024. Footage of the game was showcased at yesterday’s Nintendo Indie Direct presentation, which we reported on earlier this week, and which can now be watched back from this link.
