Final Fantasy VII Reirth may be a timed exclusive on PlayStation 5, with a demo now live, as per the dedicated State of Play presentation on which we recently reported, but Xbox Series X|S owners aren’t missing out on Final Fantasy roleplaying larks entirely (albeit in MMORPG form), as the Final Fantasy XIV Online open beta is now live on Xbox Series X|S.
Final Fantasy XXIV Online is an MMORPG entry in Square’s long-running series, which launched on PlayStation 3 and PC in 2013, with a PlayStation 4 release following in 2014, and even a Mac OS version in 2015. A PlayStation 5 version followed in 2021, and the Xbox Series X|S release is set for Q2 of this year, but the open beta can be played right now.
The Final Fantasy XXIV Online open beta includes the original A Realm Reborn story, as well as the Heavensward and Stormblood expansions. Square Enix claim that this is “essentially the equivalent of three full Final Fantasy games” available to play for free. You can play the game up to level 70, with no time restrictions.
To join the Final Fantasy XIV Online open beta simply download it from the Xbox Store, then register via the game.
