Breakers Collection is an updated release of the obscure Neo Geo fighting game Breakers released in 1996. The collection includes the original version of Breakers and its update called Revenge. You can purchase it for Xbox, PlayStation, Steam and Switch, which is the version reviewed here. There’s also a physical release from Strictly Limited Games.
Breakers is a traditional 2D fighter from the 90s and takes a lot of its inspiration from Street Fighter II. Winning two out of three rounds allows you to move on to the next challenge and face the final boss after defeating eight other combatants. There are also the usual two-player options and a practice mode to hone your skills.

A stand-out feature of Breakers is its tight controls. There were no missed commands or slow responses to button presses at any point during the playthrough. Veterans will appreciate the accuracy while newbies will be relieved that specials can be input slower than fighting games usually allow.
The online play had a few lag issues but nothing that spoils the overall gameplay. Hopefully these are ironed out in updates as the player base grows. There were players online to find a match and you can fight the CPU while you wait. Overall, Breakers is a competent fighting game experience that may not be doing anything new but will please fans of the genre.

This looks GORGEOUS!
