I love a good action-adventure game, but Uncharted and Tomb Raider have not made a new appearance in what seems like an age, so I’m chomping at the bit for something to fill that hole. So when Microsoft announced that the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was an Xbox exclusive my heart sank.
I’ve longed for a decent Indy action game – the Emperor’s Tomb was three generations ago, and that was pretty average – certainly overshadowed by the Buffy series at the time. But developer MachineGames have now dropped a gameplay reveal for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, so I thought I’d torture myself and see what I’d be missing as a PS5 owner. Guess what – I’m not digging it.
Graphically it looks pretty enough, the voice isn’t amazing, it sounds like a voice actor performing as Ford’s iconic character, but that’s fine. My main beef is the first-person perspective for most of the game. Some platforming moments are teased as being in the third person, but this style of game is perfect for viewing the character within the environment.
Sure, it may make for a better shooter, but Indiana Jones isn’t about amassing a body count, it’s about exploring the environments. I hope I’m proved to be wrong, but I’m yet to be convinced, or even excited about the game. Check out the trailer below, and let us know your thoughts.
