If you’re equally nostalgic for early-80s BASIC home computer programming and late-90s mobile phone games, then the SpectrumAndRetro NEWS blog have found a new ZX Spectrum game that could scratch both of those itches for you.

Zzznake is a conversion of the popular Snake game for the ZX Spectrum, coded using BASIC for the Homeputerium 10Liner Contest 2024, in which entrants must code a game for any 8-bit computer using just 10 lines or fewer of BASIC.

We’re sure you’ll agree that Speccy coder azimov has done a grand job considering the limitations of the contest. You can download Zzznake for yourself from azimov’s itch.io page.

And for the best ZX Spectrum coverage this side of 1992, be sure to subscribe to Crash magazine.

Alternatively, for more words that begin with multiple Zs, you could subscribe to ZZAP! 64 or ZZAP Amiga!

I've been playing video games since the 1980s, from the 8-bit era onwards. I have had to play one-handed following a stroke in 2014, and I blog about playing games with one hand.
