The Playdate is a nifty, albeit niche, handheld device that is best known for being yellow and having a unique crank control. It’s been out for a year now, and Panic, the Portland-based company has revealed some sales figures – and they’re actually pretty decent.

After initially planning to manufacture 20,000 units, demand increased thanks to widespread media coverage, and to date, an impressive 53,142 units have been sold. Whilst this demand has meant has led to shortages and increased lead times, all orders should be fulfilled by the end of the year. Will year two prove to be just as successful? Only time will tell.

You can still order Playdates direct from Panic, but prices have now increased by $20, to $199.
