If you’re anything like us lot at Fusion R Gamer, then your home is already full of so much stuff, so the idea of a game based around the concept perhaps doesn’t sound immediately appealing!
So Much Stuff is a puzzle game in the “hidden object” genre, which is somewhat self-explanatory. You’re presented with a screen filled with so much stuff, and it’s your job to find certain items amongst the jumble.
The game certainly lives up to its name. There really is “So Much Stuff” crammed into this game, especially in this new Collectors’ Edition release, which includes additional soundtracks, collectibles, and chapters.
But the question remains as to whether the “stuff” is actually stuff you’d want.
The game has plenty of collections of “stuff” to hunt through, but to unlock them you’ll have to complete the previous collections. And while this provides an incentive to keep playing, along with the in-game collectibles, the most enjoyable game mode is the main “So Much Stuff” mode, so it’s a shame that more collections for this mode aren’t unlocked at the start, forcing you to play through modes that you might find less enjoyable.
“So Much Stuff” is the main mode of the game, in which you simply have to find the specified items, before finding items that fill in a line drawing, creating an image. It sounds simple, and it is, but there’s a great sense of satisfaction upon finding all of the requested items, and completing the image.
The other modes include “Sort”, in which you just have to find the items that complete an image, which sounds easier than “So Much Stuff” mode, but with fewer “correct” items on screen, it’s actually more difficult, and less enjoyable, yet it has to be completed to unlock more collections of stuff. The other modes are “Select to Swap”, in which an image has been cut into slices, and you must rearrange the slices into the correct order to complete the image. It’s fine. There’s also “Jigsaw” mode, which you’ll enjoy if you enjoy jigsaws. I don’t especially, but it’s well-implemented, so your mileage may vary.
Ultimately, So Much Stuff is the sort of game that you’ll play on the Switch in handheld mode while half-watching something undemanding on the telly at the same time.
So Much Stuff is a mostly well-made example of the “hidden object” genre, with excellent graphics and suitably relaxed music. I just wish that so much of the stuff wasn’t locked away!
However, if you like to relax by sorting and matching stuff, you’ll find So Much Stuff Collector’s Edition on the eshop now.
