It’s no secret that I’m a huge Sonic nut, so seeing that Game Informer has had the opportunity to play the upcoming Sonic Superstars has left me a tad jealous. Furthermore, they also had the chance to interview Sonic Team’s Takashi Iizuka. But childish emotions aside the preview it put out gives us a lot more detail about what to expect from Sega’s mascot’s next outing.
Firstly, reporter Brian Shea explains that Superstars feels like a classic 2D Sonic game but with enough new features to expand the gameplay for new players. The most interesting aspect howvr, is the detailed report explains all the new powers that the characters will be able to use. This is our first glimpse into how Superstars will actually work and it seems very positive for worried Sonic fans.

The new powers are collected by beating the special stages that would usually just add up to grant an overall super modern, such as Super Sonic. But now each chaos emerald you win grants a power. This seems like a big step forward in the Sonic gameplay but let’s hope it doesn’t become a bit gimmicky like Sonic Colors.
The preview also confirms that if you manage to get all the chaos emeralds, you get the final form that appears to be different for each character. I’m happy to see that we now know exactly how the powers work in Sonic Superstars but I just wish time would skip forward so I can be playing it myself.
