Happy Boxing Day! We hope you’re not feeling too queasy from all the food and drink yesterday! We need you fighting fit as we take a look back at a ZX Spectrum game that’s the perfect match for Boxing Day!
Yes, we know that “Boxing Day” has nowt to do with pugilism, but it’s given us the perfect opportunity to dust off our occasional “ZX Spectrum Game of the Day” feature.
It’s hard to overstate just how famous Frank Bruno was in the UK in the 1980s! More gentle and amiable than his US counterpart Mike Tyson, Bruno was probably Britain’s most famous heavyweight boxer in the 1980s.
This meant it made perfect sense for Frank Bruno to front his very own boxing computer game. The game was clearly “inspired by” the NES title Punch Out.
Several re-releases under the title “Frank Bruno’s World Championship Boxing” followed on Elite’s budget label, Encore, including a 1989 re-release to tie into Bruno’s much-hyped heavyweight title fight with Mike Tyson.
