As well as Fusion & Toy Polloi, Santa also delivered some new Zzap! annuals under my tree this Christmas. Despite being more of a Speccy fan back in the day, I’m enjoying reading about these systems now.
Zzap! 64 Annual 2023
Just like last year, this year’s annual is a collection of the very best content taken from the past twelve months of the magazine, with a quarter devoted to all-new goodness. Nineteen reviews are crammed into this year’s annual, including Briley Witch Chronicles, Supremacy, Puzzle Bobble, and Sonic the Hedgehog.
Features in the book include the C64’s 40th birthday celebrations, what went wrong with the Commodore 128, exploring the world of PAL & NTSC with VIC-II2, going behind the scenes of Cassette-50, plus Kevin Gonalez on building a Sixty clone. There’s a look back at Final Fight and lost games Solar Jetman & Cybex Escape, Jaz Rignall picks his favourite Zzap covers from the late Oliver Frey, plus all the usual regulars.

Zzap! Amiga Annual 2023
As with Zzap! 64, the inaugural Zzap! Amiga annual is a collection from the past twelve months, with around 30 pages of new content thrown in for good measure. Articles in the annual include a look back at the launch of Amiga Force magazine, a custom Steampunk Amiga build, some CD32 launch memories, and Glenn Corpe’s Bullfrog diaries.
Graeme Crowle and Dante Menez talk Turbo Sprint and Green Beret, there’s a look at the A500’s best games, the making of Reshoot Proxima 3, and a look at the games from the recent AmigaJam competition. Rounding out the book and all the regulars plus reviews of Tiny Bobble, Turbo Sprint, Metal Gear, and more.
The 2023 annuals are still available from the Fusion Retro Books website.
