Apocalypse Blitz is a new beat ’em-up coming soon to Steam. There is a demo to try before the full release and we’ve put it through its paces to bring you crucial info on how it’s shaping up. Developed by Melchizedek Todd and published by Weapon Press, this scrolling brawler is entering a genre that has good form of late. Both Final Vendetta and Turtles Shredder’s Revenge have brought this once-sleeping giant of gaming back to the forefront.
The world needs saving and two angels, Jystus and Dora, arrive on earth. The demo allows you to play as one of the angels and although you can sample all the moves, this demo feels more like a proof of concept than a full trial of what the finished game will play like.

Firstly, the collision detection is not fully realised and this means Apocalypse Blitz is missing that crunch feel you get when you attack an enemy. Some of the moves seem to need a lot of work, especially the stun move you perform by holding in the left analogue stick. It wasn’t clear how this would be implemented in the final game but does seem interesting to see once development finishes.
Apocalypse Blitz has a very stylised look with large characters and lots of colour. We didn’t see much in the demo but there is an opportunity for this title to improve and become a polished beat ’em-up. In it’s current form it shows potential as a proof of concept and we look forward to seeing more progress.
