Ken and Roberta Williams, the founders of Sierra Online have announced their first new game project in more than 20 years. Colossal Cave 3D Adventure is a 3D remake of the original 1976 game, Colossal Cave Adventure – a game so important, that it was inducted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, boredom set in, and the couple decided to learn the Unity framework and decided to make a game. They were already writing a book based on the Sierra history, and the classic text-based fantasy game stuck in their heads.
According to the official website, the reimagining will be a fully immersive first-person virtual reality exploration of underground caves. The fun family-friendly adventure will allow players to encounter dragons, trolls, giant snakes, and bears; all across 143 different locations.
Developed by Cygnus Entertainment, the game will be released late in 2022 and will support the Oculus Quest 2 headset.
