The Evercade Atari cartridges that are currently on sale for Blaze’s Evercade retro consoles will be mothballed by the end of the year, joining other Evercade cartridges that are no longer manufactured for the system. This is because the licensing agreement between Blaze Entertainment and Atari comes to an end at the end of December 2023.
The reason for the non-renewal of the deal would seem to be that Atari are now exploiting their own back catalogue more fully, such as 2022’s Atari 50 anniversary compilations for mainstream modern formats and a corresponding arcade machine, as well as the recently announced Atari 2600+ and Atari GameStation Pro consoles.
The cartridges that will no longer be manufactured are: Atari Collection 1, Atari Arcade 1, Atari Collection 2, Atari Lynx Collection, and Atari Lynx Collection 2.
If you’re an Evercade owner and you don’t yet own Atari Collection 1 and 2 or Atari Arcade, I recommend that you snap them up while you still can. The Lynx collections are also worth a look if you own a handheld model, but I found they don’t translate quite so well to the TV screen via the Evercade VS, despite offering what I consider is the definitive version of California Games.
