Atari has announced that it is to buy Night Dive Studios, which has successfully revived classic games such as the upcoming System Shock remake and remasters of Doom64, and Quake. They hope to enrich their own massive library of games using Night Dive’s propriety tech, such as the KEX Engine for playing old games on modern hardware.

Atari hasn’t had the best of reputations in recent years, but some of the more recent activities, such as the Atari 50 Anniversary Celebration have indicated that maybe this direction may change.

The $10 million acquisition is expected to be completed by April.
