Bologna Nerd is a special place situated in the west of the Italian city of Bologna. Nerds from all walks of life including gamers, card collectors, pinball players and programmers meet three times a week to share their love of all things geek. Each evening has about 150 participants and the group also live stream events for a worldwide audience.
Sadly, the space they use to hold the gatherings is being sold by the owner and the club will no longer exist if they can’t buy the space in June’s auction. Italian game developer StudioLoading aka Francesco Bacchelli, who is a regular visitor of Bologna Nerd, explained that “we can’t let them take it from us. We as adult nerds finally got out of our rooms, shake hands and found other human being who enjoy geeky hobbies. For this reality to keep existing we got to participate in the auction and buy the place.”
The organizers have set up a donation page for anyone that wishes to contribute towards buying the building and keeping Bologna Nerd alive. It’s a sad story and we hope that the club can remain open by securing enough donations.
