With its hand-drawn graphics and limited colour palette, Dude Where is My Beer? boasts the aesthetic of a cool indie comic book, which is an appropriate style for its satirical take on hipster culture and craft beer worship.
Sonically, while the game doesn’t feature voice acting, it does make effective use of sound, notably the atmospheric background chatter you encounter in bars and the twiddly guitar-based soundtrack, which is rather well suited to such a hipster-laden game, as is the thumping techno which can be heard emanating from an underground club.
Dude, Where is My Beer? begins with a story that I’m sure many of us can relate to these days. I’ve certainly been out drinking with friends who just want a simple lager, while the rest of us are happy to sample the latest concoctions from a local microbrewery. The protagonist of this game is firmly in the former camp, desperate for a refreshing pilsner in a world of craft beer.
However, one man’s quest for pilsner soon uncovers intrigue and mystery a-brewing!
Dude, Where is My Beer? is only the second game I’ve had that employs a meter to monitor how drunk your character is, in the form of the BAC (blood alcohol content) meter. The BAC meter is no mere gimmick though, you have to be different levels of drunk (or sober) to carry out different tasks.
The only other game I’ve played which utilised such a meter was How to Be a Complete Bastard on the ZX Spectrum, which had a “Drunkometer”.
Dude, Where is My Beer? is a highly entertaining point and click adventure with a classic point and click control method that’s perfectly suited to the Switch.
Dude, Where is My Beer? is an amusing game with a knowing sense of humour that should appeal to fans of the point and click genre, as well as the kind of (occasionally infuriating) head-scratching puzzles that the point and click genre demands. Dude, Where is My Beer looks great and plays well – a fine brew, indeed. One minor quibble is that the odd word hasn’t been translated into English, but not enough to affect the enjoyment of the game, even if you’re a typical English monoglot like me.
With this and Lucy Dreaming (which we loved on both PC and Switch), the indie sector seems to be spearheading a full-on renaissance of the point and click adventure.
With Dude, Where is My Beer? Arik Zurabin and Edo Brenes have brewed up a funny, great-looking, full-bodied point and click (or should that be pint and click?)adventure that comes highly recommended to all fans of the genre (providing they’re of drinking age! (You got any ID?!)

I was tempted to buy this anyway (not least because of the toilets) but your review forced my hand. It’s great so far but I take umbrage with the PEGI 3 rating. Smoking? Drinking? Swearing? PEGI 3? What?
