Gearbox Studios, the developer of the upcoming Borderlands 4 game, is being sold to Take-Two Interactive by the embattled Embracer Group. The fee is reported to be $460m – about a third of the $1.3bn price tag that Embracer paid for Gearbox just three years ago.
The deal also includes the franchise rights to the Borderlands, Homeworld, Risk of Rain, Brothers in Arms, Tiny Tina, and Duke Nukem. Embracer is however retaining the publishing arm of Gearbox, which includes the forthcoming Hyper Light Breaker.
The deal is expected to be closed between April and June.
