It was meant to be one of the bigger games on show at EGX London 22 but the Street Fighter 6 area was up at the back and didn’t have much fanfare unlike Sonic Frontiers and Splatoon 3. That is not to say there wasn’t a long queue to have a go or its not as exciting to play.
I only managed to play a few rounds against a CPU controlled character but what I experienced was impressive. I played as Ryu and was able to use all the skills I have been building since Street Fighter II. hadoukens, hurricane kicks and super moves felt natural to perform on the arcade stick.
The graphics and sound are excellent, Capcom have used the power of modern tech to create large character models and detailed backgrounds that are exciting to witness. Controls and graphics aside, this is still Street Fighter, there is nothing inherently new about this new release.
But that is exactly what we expected and had Capcom tried to change the general feel and approach, gamers would have been disappointed. You will probably know if you will buy Street Fighter 6 on release, but rest assured the game we know and love is here with a modern upgrade to its presentation.
