Capcom finally revealed Street Fighter VI during Sony’s recent State of Play showcase stream. The trailer unveiled the game’s new art style, a graffiti and a hip-hop infused world that evokes memories of 1999’s Street Fighter III: Third Strike. Also revealed was the hub world of an explorable Metro City and the promise of robust single-player content with ‘World Tour’ mode.
When it came to showcasing the actual combat of Street Fighter VI – Capcom did not disappoint. Ryu, Chun-Li, Luke, and newcomer Jamie were on hand to demonstrate the new ‘Drive System’ and give us a first look at the game in action. After the less than satisfying launch of Street Fighter V over six years ago, Capcom is looking to rebuild fans’ trust and set the record straight with the latest entry in the long-running series. After watching the gameplay trailer more times than I’d comfortably admit – things are (at last) looking more exciting for the future of Street Fighter.

Amid all the positive fan reaction to the reveal, there was a bitter pill for Capcom to swallow. The 22 character launch roster of Street Fighter VI was seemingly leaked via Twitter within 24hrs of the release of the trailer, along with details concerning character story arcs. Capcom acknowledged the leak on Twitter with a post stating “We’ve all seen something we shouldn’t have”, which would seem to validate the leak as a genuine one.
You won’t find any details from the leak here, but it’s everywhere else on the interwebs if you want to take a look for yourself. I find this kind of thing spoils the anticipation for upcoming releases, and is a bit like sneaking downstairs during the night on Christmas Eve to look at your presents before you can open them. Naughty!

Street Fighter VI will be released in 2023 (in Q1, February or March, if you want my personal prediction), and will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X | S, and PC. For a full breakdown; visit the official website and watch the trailers – links below.
