After yesterday’s news that the development of Disco Elysium 2 had been suspended, two lead creators of the original game – who had been removed from the Studio – have spoken out. Robert Kurvitz, the game director and writer of the novel Sacred and Terrible Air, on which the game is based, and art director Aleksander Rostov, have published a letter to fans.
As minority shareholders in the company, they claim the majority shares were sold to another minority shareholder, who then excluded the creators from daily operations and terminated their employment. Financial data has been kept from Kurvitz and Rostov, who now believe the takeover was obtained by fraud – using money illegally taken from the studio itself! Indeed, they also claim that the ringleader behind this fraud had been previously convicted of defrauding investors in a different matter back in 2007.
The current situation is that they are in the process of reviewing their legal options, both criminal and civil, in Estonia and the UK. Fans are already suggesting a crowdfunding campaign to assist with legal fees in regaining their IP. Good luck guys!
