Fans of Defender-esque shoot ’em ups who are pining for some humanoid-rescuing action on their PlayStation or XBox consoles should be thrilled to learn that Jetboard Joust is now available. Previously released on Steam and the Nintendo Switch, the game is a surprising sequel to 1989’s unremarkable ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64 release, Skateboard Joust. Programmer James Closs has used the power of modern systems to produce something far superior to his original game. Featuring weapons pickups, upgrades, a few large bosses and the ability to choose your path through the levels, along with lots of explosions, it has a lot in common with Defender but not, thankfully, the insane difficulty. Published by Freedom Games, you can pick it up now for just under £8 on all systems.
