As spotted by Fusion’s very own Alan Hammerton, via a Tweet (or X post) from Brandon Sheffield, a modder has developed a way to pull Mega Drive homebrew ROMs from a server into Mega Drive hardware via Wifi!

Here at Fusion R Gamer, we love seeing modern technology being used to make old hardware do things that could never have been imagined at the time of its release, as we love it when retro and contemporary can complement each other.

The project was originally posted on the Discord server of SGDK (a Mega Drive development kit).

Do you still have a Mega Drive? Is loading games via wifi something you’d be interested in doing with it? Why not share your thoughts in the comments?

I've been playing video games since the 1980s, from the 8-bit era onwards. I have had to play one-handed following a stroke in 2014, and I blog about playing games with one hand.
