This wonderful restoration project, organised by StatMat and supported by many in the C64 community, deserves more exposure as far too many people I know have never heard of it.
If you are looking for ‘clean’ images of your favourite Commodore 64 games, with instant loading times, and compatability with your favourite emulator, THEC64 Mini/Maxi, or cartridge hardware such as EasyFlash or KungFu Flash…then this is the one stop shop for you!.
By ‘clean’, we are talking original loading screens and music, and no crack intros or trainers. StatMat has worked on this for a couple of years now, and version 3 includes 1500 games. These come in .prg and .crt formats, and the original .tap and .d64 files are included in the download. Tape lovers will appreciate the loading screens and music appearing as per the original cassettes 🙂
As well as a great way of preserving your physical C64 games, these images are great for arcade style C64 gaming. For example, I have these running from a bartop arcade running RetroPie and Vice! How will you run yours?
