Another new shooter from budget publisher EastAsiaSoft has landed on PS5, PS4 and Switch. Rick Henderson is your usual horizontal blaster, but instead of predetermined waves of enemies each level, or loop, is randomly generated and you keep playing until you run out of lives.

Apart from some slow down issues, Rick Henderson plays well and is easy to get to grips with. The scoring system is a multiplier that resets after each hit taken and there are lots of weapons to switch out. The three different craft have their own strengths and weaknesses and all have three attacks, standard, energy and missile.

There is some lovely pixel art and the soundtrack pulses along at a great pace. This one won’t appeal to shmup hardcores but is a fun game that achieves what it sets out to do. If you’re looking for some quick arcade action over a weekend or before a longer game then this is perfect.
