It’s May 4th! That wondrous day when Star Wars fans across the globe celebrate their favourite sci-fi film franchise. Movies will be watched, games will be played, action figures will be… umm, actioned. Nostalgia abounds, and although there are usually celebratory game sales on the day, it’s rare that anything new is released. Well, if you’re a Commodore 64 fan, that trend is well and truly bucked today.
Megastyle, the well-known and respected C64 development team, have chosen today to release their C64 version of the Parker Brothers Atari 2600 classic, The Empire Strikes Back. Rather than merely port it across, they’ve gone all out on this one, creating some lovely C64-specific graphics, adding enemies and dividing the game into levels, rather than it being the endless shooter you’ve come to know and love. There’s a lot of love and fine work gone into this, and in fact it was reviewed in Issue 7 of ZZAP! 64 Micro Action, receiving a highly creditable 87%.
