For those that are unaware, the Playdate is a nifty, albeit niche, handheld device that is best known for being yellow and having a unique crank control. It’s also been heavily featured in some national magazines in the UK and has become something of a cult, low-fi console. It also looks adorable.
Panic Inc, the makers of the system, has now announced a major update that includes:
The Catalog – a new online store that’s included the newest firmware, allowing an initial nine games to be purchased, and also includes two games for free.
Games update – Numerous new and previously announced games were shown off, many of which will be part of the latest season of content.
The price increase – The handheld device will be increasing from $179 to $199. However this will not affect current pre-orders, and the increase won’t hit for another month (7th April) giving those who were on the fence, ample time to order at the old price.
