Legendary British developer, Archer MacLean passed away on December 17 2022 after a long battle with cancer. Archer was a prolific developer and designer behind classics such as Dropzone, International Karate and IK+ (C64) and his series of snooker and pool games such as Jimmy White’s ‘Whirlwind Snooker.
Thank you Archer for the memories you have given us, you were taken too soon. 🙁
A memorial service will be held online on January 31st at 11:30 am (GMT) for those not attending in person as close family and friends.

So sad. Archer was a very nice and talented man. I interviewed Archer in a series of the best UK Games programmers for CU-Amiga. Archer, Andrew Braybrook, Jeff Minter, Peter Molyneux and David Braben are some of the best games designers in the UK. Archer’s kindness will be sadly missed. Love to his family. xx
This is such sad news, as to say I played his games for countless hours (and still do) back in the day would be an understatement.
My thoughts are with his family at this time.
Is there a date for the memorial? I was friends with Arch for many years but can’t find any details.
A date and online service link will be announced very shortly.
Thank you David, so many people will appreciate this, we all want to pay our respects.
